Chariot Duel and Astra-Exchange

vāmapārśve tu tasthau bhīmaseno vyavasthitaḥ | dakṣiṇe ca maheṣvāso dhṛṣṭadyumno vyavasthitaḥ |

Sañjaya said: On the left flank stood Bhīmasena, firmly stationed; on the right flank stood the great archer Dhṛṣṭadyumna, likewise in position. The array is presented as an ordered, disciplined formation—each warrior taking a rightful place to protect the center and uphold the collective duty of the Pāṇḍava host in battle.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights disciplined placement and coordinated protection in a righteous cause: each warrior accepts a defined role for the safety of the whole, reflecting kṣatriya-dharma as organized duty rather than mere aggression.

Sañjaya describes the Pāṇḍava battle formation: Bhīma is stationed on the left flank and the great archer Dhṛṣṭadyumna on the right, indicating the army’s structured deployment before or during engagement.
