Sañjaya said: “O Bhārata, we shall anoint Karṇa alone to the office of commander of the army. Having made Karṇa the general, we shall crush the foes.”

The verse highlights the ethical-political principle that outcomes in war depend not only on force but on right organization and decisive leadership—appointing a capable commander to unify effort and direction. It also reflects the Mahābhārata’s recurring tension between fate and human initiative: the Kauravas seek to shape events through a strategic appointment.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kauravas intend to install Karṇa as the army’s commander. The aim is to strengthen their war leadership and, under Karṇa’s command, to overpower the opposing forces (implicitly the Pāṇḍavas).
