Adhyāya 10: Śrutakarmā’s Engagements; Prativindhya–Citra Duel; Drauṇi Advances toward Bhīma

Sañjaya said: “Here, when every undertaking is carried out in accordance with sound policy and right conduct, even destiny can be made favorable. Therefore, we shall install Karṇa—foremost among men and endowed with every cluster of virtues—as commander of the army; and with him as our general, we shall crush the enemy.”

The verse asserts the Mahābhārata’s recurring nīti-idea that disciplined, ethical, and well-planned action (sunīti) can shape outcomes so strongly that even ‘daiva’ (destiny) appears to turn favorable—emphasizing human agency guided by right policy.
Sañjaya reports a strategic resolve on the Kaurava side: they decide to consecrate Karṇa, praised as the foremost man endowed with many virtues, as the army’s commander, expecting that under his leadership they will defeat and crush the enemy.
