द्रोणपर्व — अध्याय ८७: सात्यकेरनुयात्रा
Sātyaki’s resolve and departure to reach Arjuna
तेषामथ विलापानां नाय॑ दुर्योधन: स्मरेत्
teṣām atha vilāpānāṁ nāyaṁ duryodhanaḥ smaret
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: “Amid their lamentations, this Duryodhana does not call them to mind at all.”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse highlights ethical insensitivity: when a leader is driven by pride and fixation, he may become incapable of remembering the suffering his actions cause, even when lamentation surrounds him.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra comments on Duryodhana’s state of mind during the war: despite the cries and mourning of those affected, Duryodhana remains unreflective and does not ‘remember’—i.e., does not take to heart—their grief.
