Yudhiṣṭhira–Droṇa Saṃgrāma

Engagement and Countermeasures

sañjaya uvāca | lokādiṁ viśvakarmāṇam ajam īśānam avyayam | manasaḥ paramaṁ yoniṁ khaṁ vāyuṁ jyotiṣāṁ nidhim |

Sañjaya said: He was the primal source of the worlds, the universal maker, unborn, the sovereign Lord, and imperishable—the supreme womb of mind itself; the very form of space and wind; the treasury and support of all lights. Thus was that Supreme Self, the first cause of the moving and unmoving universe, the creator and dissolver of all beings, the revealer of Indra’s lordly powers and the Sun’s radiance. In His wrath dwelt Time itself. At that moment, Bhagavān Śrī Kṛṣṇa worshipped Him with mind, speech, intellect, and action.

Educational Q&A

The verse frames the Supreme as the unborn, imperishable first cause—source of mind and the elements—whose power includes both creation and dissolution. Ethically, it places human conflict within a larger moral-cosmic order where Time and divine sovereignty exceed individual might, and it models reverent restraint: even in war, the highest response to overwhelming power is disciplined worship and inner alignment.

Sañjaya describes a terrifying, all-encompassing divine presence—identified with the Supreme cause and with Time dwelling in His wrath. In response to this awe-inspiring manifestation, Śrī Kṛṣṇa offers veneration through mind, speech, intellect, and action, indicating a deliberate, total act of devotion amid the violence of the battlefield context.
