Sañjaya said: Having resorted to yogic composure, the self-disciplined Lord—sovereign even over the rulers of all—ever intent on what is truly beneficial, of far-spread fame, Viṣṇu (Govinda), the one who brings delight to Jiṣṇu (Arjuna), undertook the proper sacred procedure for Arjuna’s sake—meant to dispel grief and sorrow and to increase his radiance and inner strength.

Educational Q&A

Even amid war, the highest model of leadership is śreyas—acting for true welfare. The verse portrays Kṛṣṇa as self-possessed (yuktātmā) and supreme (īśvareśvaraḥ), using disciplined means (yoga/vidhi) to remove another’s grief and strengthen their inner radiance—an ethical ideal of compassionate guidance.

Sañjaya describes Kṛṣṇa, identified with Viṣṇu, entering yogic composure and performing the appropriate supportive rite/procedure for Arjuna’s benefit—intended to dispel Arjuna’s sorrow and enhance his strength and brilliance.
