na pāṇḍavānāṃ śibire kaścit suṣvāpa tāṃ niśām | prajāgaraḥ sarvajanaṃ hāviveśa viśāmpate, rājan ||
Sañjaya said: In the Pāṇḍavas’ camp, no one slept that night. A surge of wakeful vigilance seized everyone, O lord of the people, O King—anxious, alert, and bracing themselves amid the moral weight and peril of war.
संजय उवाच
In a dharma-charged crisis, complacency disappears: collective vigilance arises naturally when consequences are grave. The verse highlights responsible alertness—an ethical readiness to face danger rather than drifting into heedlessness.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Pāṇḍava camp remained awake through the night; everyone was seized by watchfulness, suggesting imminent threat, heightened tension, and preparation for the next turn in battle.
