Vāyu said: “Fortunate indeed! The steadfast great chariot-warrior, equal in valor to his father, has—by fulfilling the warrior’s ordained duty—attained that exalted state which heroic men long for.”

The verse affirms kṣatriya-dharma: when a warrior performs the prescribed duty with courage and steadiness, even death in battle is framed as an exalted, ‘hero-desired’ destiny. Ethical emphasis falls on rightful conduct (vidhi) and steadfastness (dhīratā), not merely victory.
Vāyu praises Abhimanyu after his fall in battle, declaring it auspicious that he—equal in valor to his father—followed the warrior’s code and thereby reached the lofty posthumous state sought by heroes.
