tatrāsya gāthā gāyanti ye purāṇavido janāḥ
There, those people who are learned in the ancient lore (Purāṇas) sing a traditional verse about this sacrifice—recounting the old account connected with that rite.
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights the authority of inherited sacred memory: ethical and ritual understanding is preserved and transmitted through learned tradition-bearers who recite ancient accounts connected with dharma and sacrifice.
Nārada introduces an old, well-known gāthā recited by Purāṇa-knowers, signaling that an earlier traditional account will now be quoted to explain the background and significance of a particular sacrifice.
