Night Vigil and Kṛṣṇa’s Instructions to Dāruka (निशि प्रजागरः—दारुकानुशासनम्)
सो<श्वमेधसहस्रेण राजसूयशतेन च । पुण्यै: क्षत्रिययज्ैश्व प्रभूतवरदक्षिणै:,उन्होंने एक हजार अश्वमेध, सौ राजसूय तथा बहुत-सी श्रेष्ठ दक्षिणावाले अनेक पुण्यमय क्षत्रिय-यज्ञोंका अनुष्ठान किया था
so 'śvamedha-sahasreṇa rājasūya-śatena ca | puṇyaiḥ kṣatriya-yajñaiś ca prabhūta-vara-dakṣiṇaiḥ ||
Nārada said: “He had performed a thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices and a hundred Rājasūya consecrations, along with many other meritorious Kṣatriya rites—each endowed with abundant and excellent sacrificial gifts.”
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights an ideal of righteous kingship: a ruler’s greatness is measured not only by power but by dharmic observance and generosity—performing sanctioned rites and giving abundant dakṣiṇā, thereby supporting social-religious order.
Nārada is describing a king’s extraordinary record of ritual accomplishments—thousands of major sacrifices and many other Kṣatriya rites—emphasizing his prestige, merit, and the scale of his patronage through lavish gifts.
