Sanjaya said: O King, Yudhishthira, Bhimasena, Shikhandi, Satyaki, the twin brothers (Nakula and Sahadeva), Dhrishtadyumna, Virata, Drupada, and the Kekaya princes—fighters ready to strike, their forces drawn up in battle array—rushed forward together, intent on entering the formation. Driven by urgency to protect Abhimanyu and to follow the path he had opened, these elders and allies pressed into the vyuha, showing how duty to kin and comrades compels action even amid the peril of war.

Educational Q&A

Even in the chaos of war, dharma expresses itself as responsibility: leaders and comrades feel compelled to act to protect a vulnerable ally (Abhimanyu) and to uphold their obligations to family and the collective cause, despite the danger posed by the enemy’s formation.

Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that major Pandava-aligned warriors—Yudhishthira, Bhima, Shikhandi, Satyaki, the twins, Dhrishtadyumna, Virata, Drupada, and the Kekayas—charge forward with their troops in formation, attempting to enter the enemy’s vyuha by the route opened by Abhimanyu, in order to support and protect him.
