Jayadrathasya varaprāptiḥ (जयद्रथस्य वरप्राप्तिः) — Jayadratha’s boon and the restraint of the Pāṇḍava advance
सौभद्रस्तु तत: शड्खं प्रध्माप्य पुरुषर्षभ: । शीघ्रमभ्यपतत् सेनां भारतीं भरतर्षभ
saubhadras tu tataḥ śaṅkhaṃ pradhmāpya puruṣarṣabhaḥ | śīghram abhyapatat senāṃ bhāratīṃ bharatarṣabha ||
Sañjaya said: Then Saubhadra—foremost among men—having blown his conch, swiftly charged upon the Bhārata host.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in practice: a warrior publicly signals commitment (by sounding the conch) and advances without concealment. Ethically, it frames battle as a duty-bound ordeal requiring courage and clarity of intent, not impulsive violence.
Sañjaya reports that Abhimanyu (Saubhadra) blows his conch and immediately charges into the Kuru/Bhārata army, marking a decisive, rapid engagement in the ongoing conflict of the Droṇa Parva.
