Educational Q&A

The verse contrasts cowardly panic with the public recognition of true kṣatriya valor: when courage is displayed in defense of one’s side and duty, it naturally draws collective approval, while those lacking resolve scatter in fear.

Sañjaya reports that the attendants/followers of a warrior (contextually, the opposing side) become terrified and flee in all directions; at the same time, witnessing the extraordinary prowess of Arjuna’s son Abhimanyu, the surrounding beings raise joyful shouts and words of praise.
