Droṇa’s Renewed Advance toward Yudhiṣṭhira; Fall of Satyajit and Allied Recoil (द्रोणस्य युधिष्ठिरप्रेप्सा—सत्यजितः पतनम्)
वर्तमाने तथा युद्धे घोररूपे भयंकरे । मोहयित्वा परान् द्रोणो युधिष्िरमुपाद्रवत्,इस प्रकार जब अत्यन्त भयंकर घोर युद्ध चल रहा था, उस समय शत्रुओंको मोहित करके द्रोणाचार्यने युधिष्ठिरपर आक्रमण किया
vartamāne tathā yuddhe ghorarūpe bhayaṅkare | mohayi tvā parān droṇo yudhiṣṭhiram upādravat ||
Sañjaya said: While that battle was raging—terrible in form and fearsome—Droṇa, having bewildered the opposing warriors, launched an assault upon Yudhiṣṭhira.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical strain of warfare: even against a dharma-centered figure like Yudhiṣṭhira, commanders may use confusion and tactical deception. It invites reflection on how fear, chaos, and strategy can eclipse straightforward righteousness on the battlefield.
As the battle becomes extremely fierce, Droṇa first throws the opposing side into confusion and then directly charges to attack Yudhiṣṭhira, marking a focused attempt to strike a key Pāṇḍava leader amid the turmoil.
