Droṇa’s Renewed Advance toward Yudhiṣṭhira; Fall of Satyajit and Allied Recoil (द्रोणस्य युधिष्ठिरप्रेप्सा—सत्यजितः पतनम्)
व्यूढानीकस्ततो द्रोण: पाण्डवानां महाचमूम् । अभ्ययाद् भरतश्रेष्ठ धर्मराजजिघृक्षया,संजय कहते हैं--राजेन्द्र! महारथी द्रोणाचार्यने वह रात बिताकर दुर्योधनसे बहुत कुछ बातें कहीं और संशप्तकोंके साथ अर्जुनके युद्धका योग लगा दिया। भरतश्रेष्ठ) फिर संशप्तकोंका वध करनेके लिये अर्जुन जब दूर निकल गये, तब सेनाकी व्यूहरचना करके धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरको पकड़नेके लिये द्रोणाचार्यने पाण्डवोंकी विशाल सेनापर आक्रमण किया
vyūḍhānīkastato droṇaḥ pāṇḍavānāṃ mahācamūm | abhyayād bharataśreṣṭha dharmarājajighṛkṣayā ||
Sañjaya said: Then Droṇa, having arrayed his forces in battle formation, advanced against the great army of the Pāṇḍavas, O best of the Bharatas, with the intent of seizing Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira). The episode underscores a strategic aim in war: to break the enemy’s moral and political center by capturing the righteous king rather than merely seeking slaughter.
