Sañjaya said: O king, having arranged an engagement for Arjuna (Pārtha) with the Saṃsaptaka warriors, and when Arjuna had marched out to slay those Saṃsaptakas, Droṇa seized the moment, set his battle-array, and advanced against the Pāṇḍava host with the aim of capturing Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira. The episode highlights strategic diversion in war and the moral tension between righteous aims and tactical deception.

The verse foregrounds the ethical strain of warfare: even when pursuing a strategic objective (capturing the enemy king), commanders may employ diversion and calculated timing. It invites reflection on how dharma in war must contend with necessity, intention, and the means used to achieve ends.
Dro47a arranges for Arjuna to be drawn away into combat with the Sabaptakas. Once Arjuna departs to destroy them, Dro47a uses the opening to form a battle-array and attack the P0147ava forces with the specific aim of seizing Yudhi636dhira.
