tataḥ kruddho mahābāhur bhīmaseno ’bhyabhāṣata | kutsayann iva kaunteyam arjunaṃ bharatarṣabha ||

Sañjaya said: “Then Bhīmasena, the mighty-armed, overcome with anger, spoke—addressing Arjuna, Kuntī’s son, as though rebuking him, O bull among the Bharatas. The moment signals a moral tension within the Pāṇḍava camp: righteous fury and impatience press against the demands of restraint, duty, and strategic conduct in war.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how anger can shape speech even among the righteous: in a dharmic struggle, moral urgency must be balanced with restraint and discernment, especially when addressing allies and leaders.

Sañjaya reports that Bhīma, provoked and furious, begins speaking to Arjuna in a reproachful tone—an internal moment of confrontation meant to spur action or accountability amid the pressures of the battlefield.
