Shloka 413

धर्मराजस्य तद्‌ वाक्‍्यं नाभिशड्कितुमह्सि । “जिसके लिये आपने शस्त्र उठाया, जिसके जीवनकी अभिलाषा रखकर आप जी रहे हैं, वह तो आज पीछे समरभूमिमें गिरकर चिरनिद्रामें सो रहा है और आपको इसकी सूचनातक नहीं दी गयी। धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरके उस कथनपर तो आपको संदेह या अविश्वास नहीं करना चाहिये"

sañjaya uvāca | dharmarājasya tad vākyaṃ nābhiśaṅkitum arhasi |

Sanjaya said: You ought not to doubt that statement of Dharmaraja (Yudhishthira). In the moral economy of the epic, Yudhishthira’s word is treated as a benchmark of truthfulness; therefore, when he reports the fall of the one for whose sake you took up arms and for whose life you have been living, his testimony should be accepted without suspicion.
