For that very purpose I sent that rākṣasa into the battle to confront Karṇa; besides him, no one could trouble Karṇa on the field at night. Sañjaya said: “O King, thus at that time Keśava, Devakī’s son (Kṛṣṇa)—ever intent on Dhanañjaya’s welfare and ceaselessly devoted to what was dear to Arjuna—spoke these words to Sātyaki.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights steadfast loyalty and purposeful counsel: Kṛṣṇa consistently acts for Arjuna’s welfare and supports righteous strategy in the midst of war, emphasizing duty toward one’s ally and the ethical responsibility to protect those under one’s care.

Sañjaya reports to the king that Kṛṣṇa (Devakī’s son), intent on Arjuna’s benefit and always devoted to what Arjuna values, addressed Sātyaki—framing the preceding instruction or plan as spoken directly by Kṛṣṇa to Sātyaki.
