Educational Q&A

A solemn vow (pratijñā) is treated as a matter of honor and dharma; its fulfillment is praised as a major ethical achievement, and success is also acknowledged with humility as aided by good fortune (diṣṭyā).

Sañjaya reports that Arjuna (addressed as Jiṣṇu, “the victorious one”) has successfully carried out a significant pledge made in the course of the battle, and he marks its completion as an auspicious and noteworthy turning point.
