द्रोणपर्व — पञ्चदशोऽध्यायः (Droṇa Parva, Chapter 15): युधिष्ठिर-रक्षा तथा अर्जुनस्य शरवृष्टिः
ततः स्वरथमारोप्य मद्राणामधिपं रणे । अपोवाह रणात् तूर्ण कृतवर्मा महारथ:,यह देख महारथी कृतवर्मा युद्धस्थलमें मद्रराज शल्यको अपने रथपर बिठाकर तुरंत ही रणभूमिसे बाहर हटा ले गया
tataḥ svaratham āropya madrāṇām adhipaṃ raṇe | apovāha raṇāt tūṛṇaṃ kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: Then, in the midst of battle, the great chariot-warrior Kṛtavarmā lifted the lord of the Madras onto his own chariot and swiftly carried him away from the field.
संजय उवाच
Even in war, dharma includes responsibility toward comrades: safeguarding an ally and preserving the army’s leadership can be a righteous and strategic act, not merely retreat.
Kṛtavarmā places Śalya, the Madra king, onto his own chariot and quickly removes him from the battlefield, indicating Śalya’s vulnerable situation and Kṛtavarmā’s protective intervention.
