नाशवनुवंस्ततो हन्तुं सात्यकिं प्रवरा रथा: । कर्ण आदि श्रेष्ठ महारथियोंने सात्यकिके वधके लिये पूरा प्रयत्न किया; परंतु वे उन्हें मार न सके

Transliteration

nāśakanuvaṁs tato hantuṁ sātyakiṁ pravarā rathāḥ | karṇa-ādi-śreṣṭha-mahārathiyoṁ ne sātyaki-vadha-kṛte pūrṇa-prayatnaṁ kīyā; parantu ve unheṁ mār na sake |

Translation

Sañjaya said: Then the foremost chariot-warriors, led by Karṇa and other eminent mahārathas, exerted their utmost effort to slay Sātyaki. Yet, despite their concentrated assault and intent, they were unable to kill him—showing how prowess, when met by equal valor and steadfast resolve, does not always yield the desired end in war.
