अध्याय १४८ — कर्णप्रभावः, धृष्टद्युम्नस्य विरथता, तथा घटोत्कच-आह्वानम्

Chapter 148: Karṇa’s Pressure, Dhṛṣṭadyumna Unhorsed, and the Summoning of Ghaṭotkaca

sa tān rathavarān rājann atyākramat tadārjunaḥ | mohayann iva nārācair jayadrathavadhepsayā || visṛjan dikṣu sarvāsu śarān asitasārathiḥ |

Sañjaya said: O King, then Arjuna pressed hard upon those foremost chariot-warriors, as though bewildering them with his iron arrows, driven by the resolve to slay Jayadratha. With Kṛṣṇa, the dark-hued charioteer, he kept releasing shafts in every direction.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights vow-driven resolve within dharma: Arjuna’s focused effort to punish a grave wrong (Jayadratha’s role in Abhimanyu’s death) is portrayed as disciplined, purposeful action in war—intense yet directed by a moral aim rather than mere rage.

Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, with Kṛṣṇa as charioteer, charges the leading enemy chariot-fighters and showers arrows in all directions, seemingly confounding them, because he is intent on reaching and killing Jayadratha.
