Sañjaya said: Bearing a shield adorned with a net of hundreds of tiny golden bells, and taking up his sword, he roared aloud and leapt down from his chariot—an image of fierce resolve as the battle’s fury pressed men to meet danger face to face, staking honor and duty on personal courage.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in its battlefield form: when duty demands, a warrior must act with courage and readiness, meeting peril directly rather than clinging to safety or hesitation.
Sañjaya describes a warrior who, armed with a bell-adorned shield and sword, roars and jumps down from his chariot—signaling an escalation to close combat and a decisive, aggressive move in the fight.
