Droṇa-parva 112: Karṇa–Bhīma Engagement and Duryodhana’s Protective Order
na hi me vartate buddhir adya yuddhe kathaṃcana | droṇo 'pi rabhaso yuddhe mama pīḍayate balam ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “For today, my mind finds no footing in battle at all. And Droṇa too, rushing fiercely in the fight, is pressing hard upon my forces.”
The verse highlights the ethical and psychological burden of righteous leadership in war: even a dharma-minded king like Yudhiṣṭhira can lose resolve when violence conflicts with conscience, yet the pressure of duty and the enemy’s onslaught forces a decision.
In the Droṇa Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira voices his inability to concentrate on fighting, while noting that Droṇa is attacking with great speed and force, severely afflicting the Pāṇḍava troops—signaling a moment of crisis and urgency on the battlefield.
