Droṇa-parva 112: Karṇa–Bhīma Engagement and Duryodhana’s Protective Order
न तत् सौहदमन्येषु मया शैनेय लक्षितम् | यथा त्वमस्मान् भजसे वर्तमानानुपप्लवे,शैनेय! इस विनाशकारी संकटमें पड़े हुए हमलोगोंकी तुम जिस प्रकार सेवा एवं सहायता कर रहे हो, वैसा सौहार्द मैंने तुम्हारे सिवा दूसरोंमें नहीं देखा है
na tat sauhṛdam anyeṣu mayā śaineya lakṣitam | yathā tvam asmān bhajase vartamānān upaplave, śaineya ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “I have not perceived such friendship in anyone else, O Śaineya, as the way you stand by us and care for us now, when we are caught in this ruinous crisis.”
युधिष्ठिर उवाच
True friendship (sauhṛda) is proven in adversity: steadfast support and service during crisis is a higher mark of loyalty than words or formal alliance.
In the midst of the destructive turmoil of the war, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Śaineya (Sātyaki), acknowledging that no one else has shown such devoted support to the Pāṇḍavas as Sātyaki is showing at this critical moment.
