Sañjaya said: When they saw Duryodhana standing there at the very front, facing Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, the battlefield resounded on all sides with lion-like roars mingled with the blare of conches—an outward surge of martial confidence and challenge as the confrontation tightened around the leaders.

The verse highlights how external displays—roars, conches, and rallying cries—can amplify courage and intimidation in war, yet they remain signals of shifting human morale rather than proof of righteousness; dharma is not established by noise or bravado but by conduct and intent.
Sañjaya reports that Duryodhana is seen standing at the forefront directly before Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, and in response the field echoes with lion-like shouts mixed with conch-blasts—an audible surge of challenge and encouragement as the opposing leaders face each other.
