द्रोणेन केकय-चेदि-वीरवधः
Droṇa’s engagements with the Kekayas and Cedis
उदपानमिहाश्वानां नालमस्ति रणे<र्जुन । परीप्सन्ते जल॑ चेमे पेयं न त्ववगाहनम्,“अर्जुन! यहाँ घोड़ोंके पीनेके लिये पर्याप्त जल नहीं है। ये पीनेयोग्य जल चाहते हैं। इन्हें स्नानकी इच्छा नहीं है”
udapānam ihāśvānāṁ nālam asti raṇe 'rjuna | parīpsante jalaṁ ceme peyaṁ na tv avagāhanam ||
Sañjaya said: “O Arjuna, in this battlefield there is not enough water at the well for the horses. They seek water fit for drinking; they do not desire to bathe.”
संजय उवाच
Even amid warfare, attention to practical needs and humane care—such as providing drinkable water for animals—remains part of responsible conduct; necessity is distinguished from luxury.
Sañjaya informs Arjuna that the available water at the well is insufficient for the horses; the immediate requirement is drinking water, not bathing or immersion.
