Sañjaya said: “Noble warriors, having fixed their resolve for battle, do not abandon the equal contest. Yet, O King, in that fight your men were being struck down in the field according to the attackers’ full ardor. Even as they fell, your soldiers did not flee the combat; relying on their finest war-trained judgment, they held their ground, while your champions too, with complete zeal on the battlefield, kept slaying the enemy.”

The verse praises steadfastness and honor in battle: true warriors, having resolved upon their duty, do not abandon a fair fight out of fear. Even amid heavy losses, disciplined judgment and commitment to kṣatriya-dharma restrain panic and flight.
Sañjaya reports to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra that in the ongoing clash the king’s troops are being cut down with great intensity, yet they are not running away; instead they continue to stand and fight with trained resolve, while the king’s fighters also strive vigorously against the enemy.
