पूर्वाह्नि तन्महारीद्रं राज्ञां युद्धमवर्तत । कुरूणां पाण्डवानां च मुख्यशूरविनाशनम्,पूर्वाह्नकालमें कौरव-पाण्डव नरेशोंका वह महा-भयंकर युद्ध आरम्भ हुआ, जो बड़े- बड़े शूरवीरोंका विनाश करनेवाला था
pūrvāhṇi tan-mahārīdraṃ rājñāṃ yuddham avartata | kurūṇāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca mukhya-śūra-vināśanam ||
Sañjaya said: In the forenoon, that exceedingly dreadful battle of the kings began—between the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas—a conflict destined to destroy many of the foremost heroes. The narration underscores how war, once unleashed, consumes even the best among men, turning royal duty into a field of irreversible loss.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the moral gravity of war: even when framed as royal duty, battle rapidly becomes a force that destroys the foremost heroes, reminding the listener that violence carries irreversible consequences and tests dharma under extreme pressure.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that, in the forenoon, the great and terrifying war between the Kuru and Pāṇḍava forces commenced, characterized as a conflict that would bring about the destruction of many leading warriors.
