Sañjaya said: As that confused and chaotic battle raged on in the midst of great terror, a deafening uproar arose, so immense that it seemed to strike and fill the vast sky. The verse underscores the moral atmosphere of war: when dharma is contested on the battlefield, the outer noise mirrors the inner upheaval—fear, frenzy, and the collapse of ordinary human order.

The verse conveys that war generates not only physical destruction but also an atmosphere of moral and psychological turmoil. The overwhelming noise symbolizes the disorientation and fear that arise when human beings enter a state where ordinary restraints and clarity are shaken.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the battle has become intensely chaotic and terrifying, and that a tremendous roar has arisen—so great it seems to reverberate through the entire sky.
