Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Anxiety and Bhīṣma’s Theological Explanation of Pāṇḍava Invincibility

Book 6, Chapter 61

narāś ca kāyaiḥ patitair dantibhiś ca mahāhave | agamyārūpā pṛthivī māṃsaśoṇitakardamā ||

Sañjaya said: In that great battle the ground was strewn with fallen bodies—men and elephants alike. The earth became a mire of flesh and blood, so dreadful that it was no longer passable. The scene lays bare the moral cost of war: when dharma collapses into slaughter, even the very land turns into an obstacle, forcing the listener to confront the suffering that victory cannot erase.
