Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
rathe bhīṣmasya cikṣepa yathā devo dhaneśvaraḥ | tayā bhīṣmanipātinyā sa ratho bhasmasāt-kṛtaḥ ||
Whirling his mace aloft in wrath, he hurled it at Bhīṣma’s chariot, as though Kubera, Lord of Wealth, had struck with his own mace. By that Bhīṣma-felling blow, the chariot was reduced to ashes.

The verse underscores the terrifying momentum of war: wrath and martial power can annihilate even the greatest defenses, reminding the listener that violence escalates quickly and brings irreversible destruction—an ethical warning embedded within heroic narration.
Sañjaya describes a warrior hurling a mace at Bhīṣma’s chariot with such force that it is likened to Kubera’s divine strike; the blow is said to be Bhīṣma-felling and reduces the chariot to ashes.
