भीष्मपतनविषये धृतराष्ट्रस्य प्रश्नाः | Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Questions on Bhīṣma’s Fall
य आत्मनो दुश्चरितादशुभ प्राप्तुयान्नर: । एनसा तेन नान््यं स उपाशड्कितुमर्हति,जो मनुष्य अपने दुष्कर्मोके कारण अशुभ फल भोग रहा हो, उसे उस पापकी आशंका दूसरेपर नहीं करनी चाहिये
ya ātmanaḥ duścaritād aśubhaṃ prāptuyān naraḥ | enasā tena nānyaṃ sa upāśaṅkitum arhati ||
Sañjaya said: A man who is suffering an inauspicious result because of his own evil conduct should not cast suspicion of that sin upon anyone else. The burden of wrongdoing and its consequence belongs to the doer, not to another.
संजय उवाच
One should accept responsibility for one’s own wrongdoing and its consequences; it is unethical to shift blame or suspicion onto others for the results of one’s own sins.
Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra in the Bhīṣma Parva context, states a moral principle: misfortune arising from one’s own misconduct should not be attributed to someone else.
