Sañjaya said: In the thick of battle, Pārtha (Arjuna) blazed forth like a smokeless fire. Having subdued those great chariot-warriors in the forenoon before the tenth day, the son of Kuntī shone on the battlefield—his prowess appearing pure and unobstructed, like flame without smoke.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma expressed as disciplined, effective valor: Arjuna’s power is compared to smokeless fire—suggesting clarity, purity of purpose, and action that is forceful yet not clouded by confusion or hesitation.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna, after defeating prominent chariot-warriors earlier that day, is visibly dominating the battlefield, shining with martial brilliance like a flame that burns cleanly without smoke.
