शिखण्डी तु रणे राजन्‌ विव्याधैव पितामहम्‌ । शरैरशनिसंस्पर्शैस्तथा सर्पविषोपमै:,महाराज! उस समय रणक्षेत्रमें शिखण्डी वज्रके समान स्पर्शवाले तथा सर्पविषके समान भयंकर बाणोंद्वारा पितामह भीष्मको घायल करने लगा

Transliteration

sañjaya uvāca | śikhaṇḍī tu raṇe rājan vivyādhaiva pitāmaham | śarair aśani-saṃsparśais tathā sarpa-viṣopamaiḥ ||

Translation

Sanjaya said: O King, in the thick of battle Śikhaṇḍī began to pierce the grandsire Bhīṣma with arrows—striking like the touch of a thunderbolt and dreadful as serpent-poison—showing how, in war, even the most revered elder can be assailed when the tide of strategy and past enmity turns against him.
