दुर्मर्षणस्तु विंशत्या पाण्डवं निशितै: शरै: । फिर सिन्धुराज जयद्रथने तीन, अवन्तीके विन्द और अनुविन्दने पाँच-पाँच तथा दुर्मर्षणने बीस तीखे बाणोंद्वारा पाण्डुनन्दन भीमसेनको चोट पहुँचायी
durmarṣaṇas tu viṃśatyā pāṇḍavaṃ niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ |
Sañjaya said: Durmarṣaṇa struck the Pāṇḍava—Bhīmasena, son of Pāṇḍu—with twenty razor-sharp arrows.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the battlefield dimension of kṣatriya-dharma: steadfastness under attack and disciplined martial action. Ethically, it underscores how duty-driven combat tests endurance and resolve, even as it intensifies suffering.
Sañjaya reports that the Kaurava warrior Durmarṣaṇa wounds the Pāṇḍava hero (understood as Bhīmasena) by shooting him with twenty sharp arrows, marking an escalation in the exchange of missile-weapons.
