Bhīṣma’s request for water; Arjuna’s Parjanya-astra; counsel to Duryodhana on reconciliation

Sañjaya said: Then Bhīmasena, who prized the glory of battle, cut down those other dreadful volleys of arrows shot by various warriors, splitting each shaft into three. Having thus checked the enemies’ weapons, he wounded all those great bowmen with three arrows apiece. Then, as the great battle raged there, Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) came onto the field in his chariot; seeing Bhīma, the mighty chariot-warrior, he advanced—showing the Pāṇḍavas’ coordinated resolve to meet the enemy’s onslaught and uphold the duty they had chosen in war.
