Educational Q&A

The verse presents an ethical ideal: social harmony arises when people adhere to their own dharma (svakarma) and wrongdoing like theft disappears; it also portrays a mythic realm where the fruits of such order are extraordinary well-being and freedom from decay.

Sanjaya is reporting to King Dhṛtarāṣṭra a description of a distant island/realm, emphasizing its orderly society—everyone follows prescribed duties, no thieves are found, and the inhabitants enjoy exceptional longevity without old age or death.
