Chapter 8
भूतानि च पिशाचाश्न नासत्यावपि चाश्रिनौ | गन्धर्वाप्सरसश्ैव यक्षा देवर्षयस्तथा,उस पर्वतपर रुद्रगण, साध्यगण, विश्वेदेवगण, वसुगण, यमराज, वरुण, अनुचरोंसहित कुबेर, भूत, पिशाच, अश्विनीकुमार, गन्धर्व, अप्सरा, यक्ष, देवर्षि, आदित्यगण, मरुदगण तथा यातुधानगण अनेक रूपधारी उमावल्लभ परमात्मा शिवकी सब प्रकारसे उपासना करते हैं
bhūtāni ca piśācāś ca nāsatyāv api cāśvinau | gandharvāpsarasaś caiva yakṣā devarṣayas tathā ||
Saṃvarta said: “Beings of every order—spirits and goblins, the divine Aśvin twins, Gandharvas and Apsarases, Yakṣas and the seer-sages among the gods as well—offer worship. Thus the whole cosmos, from the subtle to the celestial, turns in reverence toward Śiva, the beloved of Umā, acknowledging him as the supreme Lord.”
संवर्त उवाच
The verse emphasizes the universality of devotion: beings from many realms—spirits, celestial attendants, and divine sages—are portrayed as worshippers, underscoring Śiva’s supreme and all-encompassing lordship and the idea that reverence for the divine transcends category, status, or realm.
Saṃvarta is listing various classes of beings to show that worship of Śiva is cosmic in scope. The enumeration functions as praise (stuti), situating Śiva as the focus of veneration for both fearsome and auspicious beings, thereby magnifying his authority and sanctity within the episode.
