Marutta Seeks a Priest: Bṛhaspati’s Refusal and Nārada’s Guidance to Saṃvarta
Chapter 6
pṛcchet tvāṃ yadi kenāhaṃ tavākhyāta iti saṃmataḥ | brūyās tvaṃ nāradeneti saṃvarta kathito 'si me ||
Nārada said: “If someone asks you, ‘By whom was I informed about you?’, then you should reply, ‘By Nārada.’ Thus, O Saṃvarta, you have been identified to me as the one to be approached.”
नारद उवाच
The verse emphasizes dharmic speech: when questioned, one should give truthful attribution to the proper source, maintaining integrity, trust, and clarity in communication.
Nārada instructs how to answer if asked who directed him to Saṃvarta—he should say that Nārada provided the information—thereby establishing a clear chain of reference and responsibility.
