वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse functions as a colophon, emphasizing that the surrounding discourse belongs to dāna-dharma (the ethics of giving), with special focus on go-dāna (the gifting of cows) as a valued charitable act within dharma.
This line marks the formal close of the chapter: it situates the text within the Mahābhārata’s Anuśāsana Parva and identifies the chapter’s thematic placement in the gift-ethics section, specifically the episode on cow-gifting.
