Bhishma said: “They declare as a truly worthy recipient one who is patient and gentle toward cattle, who gives refuge and protection to cows, who is grateful, and who is distressed for want of livelihood. Such a person is to be supported when he is bound or restrained, when he is weakened, when he is in sudden peril, when a great need has arisen, when resources are required for agriculture, when means are needed for sacrificial offerings, or at the time of childbirth.”
