Narada said: “One who, in the proper manner, offers as a gift cooked ṣaṣṭika rice prepared with ghee and milk, and does so in the sacred observance connected with the Uttarā (Uttaraphālgunī) constellation, is honored and held in high esteem in the heavenly world.”
नारद उवाच
The verse teaches that charity (dāna) performed with proper ritual care (vidhivat) and with wholesome, sattvic food—here, ṣaṣṭika rice cooked with ghee and milk—yields spiritual merit culminating in honor in heaven.
Nārada is describing a specific meritorious gift: donating ṣaṣṭika-rice odana mixed with ghee and milk on the observance associated with the Uttarā (Uttaraphālgunī) nakṣatra, and he states the resulting heavenly reward.
