Shloka 51

दानफलप्रकरणम् — उपानहदानं, तिलदानं, भूमिदानं, गोदानं, अन्नदानं च

Gifts and Their Stated Results: Footwear, Sesame, Land, Cows, and Food

पृथ्वीनाथ! नरेश्वर! यह पृथ्वी ही जगत्‌की माता और पिता है। इसके समान दूसरा कोई भूत नहीं है ।। अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम्‌ । बृहस्पतेश्व॒ संवादमिन्द्रस्य च युधिष्ठिर,युधिष्ठि!! इस विषयमें विज्ञ पुरुष इन्द्र और बृहस्पतिके संवादरूप इस प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया करते हैं

Pṛthvīnātha! Nareśvara! iyaṃ pṛthvī hi jagato mātā ca pitā ca. asyāḥ samaṃ dvitīyaṃ kiñcid bhūtaṃ na vidyate. atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam—Bṛhaspateś ca saṃvādam Indrasya ca, Yudhiṣṭhira.

Bhīṣma said: “O lord of the earth, O king! This very Earth is the mother and the father of the world; there is no other being equal to her. In this matter, the wise cite an ancient precedent: the old narrative in the form of a dialogue between Indra and Bṛhaspati, O Yudhiṣṭhira.”
