Bhishma said: “When Manu was about to depart for heaven, he entrusted women to the care of men. He declared that women are physically vulnerable, live with little, are naturally well-wishing, and are intent on conquering the world of truth (that is, devoted to satya). Therefore, they are worthy of honor. Men should respect and protect women, for the welfare of society and the fulfillment of dharma depend upon them.”

The verse frames honoring and safeguarding women as a dharmic obligation: since women are portrayed as vulnerable yet benevolent and truth-oriented, society’s moral order is upheld when men treat them with respect and responsible care.
Bhishma recounts a traditional account: as Manu prepares to ascend to heaven, he formally entrusts women to men, giving a normative instruction that women should be honored and protected as part of righteous social conduct.
