Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma
अनुकूलामनुवंशां क्रात्रा दत्तामुपाग्निकाम् । परिक्रम्य यथान्यायं भार्या विन्देद् द्विजोत्तम:,“जो अनुकूल हो, अपने वंशके अनुरूप हो, अपने पिता-माता या भाईके द्वारा दी गयी हो और प्रज्वलित अग्निके समीप बैठी हो, ऐसी पत्नीको श्रेष्ठ द्विज अग्निकी परिक्रमा करके शास्त्रविधिके अनुसार ग्रहण करे
anukūlām anuvaṁśāṁ ca bhrātrā dattām upāgnikām | parikramya yathānyāyaṁ bhāryāṁ vinded dvijottamaḥ ||
Bhishma said: A best of the twice-born should accept as wife a woman who is agreeable in disposition, suitable to his lineage, duly given by her brother, and seated near the kindled sacred fire; having circumambulated the fire in the proper manner, he should take her according to scriptural rule.
