Chapter 34
nityaṁ śamaparā ye ca tathā ye cānāsūyakāḥ | nityasvādhyāyino ye ca durgāṇy atitaranti te ||
Narada said: Those who are ever devoted to inner calm, who are free from fault-finding and envy, and who daily engage in self-study of sacred teaching—such people cross over difficult straits and pass beyond times of peril.
Cultivate steady mental calm (śama), avoid fault-finding and envy (anāsūyā), and maintain daily sacred study (svādhyāya); these disciplines enable a person to overcome dangers and crises.
Nārada is instructing by listing the qualities of people who successfully pass through adversity, emphasizing inner discipline and ethical speech/attitude rather than external power.
