On Those Worthy of Honor and Salutation

taṁ sahasrāvare kāle śakro draṣṭum upāgamat | tad eva ca punar vākyam uvāca balavṛtrahā ||

Bhishma said: When the thousand-year period was almost complete, Śakra (Indra), the slayer of Vṛtra and lord of the gods, came again to see him. And once more he repeated to him the very same words he had spoken before—pressing the matter again at the close of the long interval.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how time and sustained effort frame ethical trials: even after a long interval, the same demand or test can return, and one’s steadiness in dharma is measured not by a moment but by endurance across time.

As the thousand-year period nears its end, Indra comes again to visit (Matanga, in context) and repeats the same statement he had made earlier, renewing the prior request or challenge.
