Mataṅga–Śakra Dialogue on Tapas, Status, and Moral Qualities
yathā surāṇām amṛtaṃ pitṝṇāṃ ca yathā svadhā | sudhā yathā ca nāgānāṃ tathā gaṅgā-jalaṃ nṛṇām ||
As nectar satisfies the gods, as the svadhā-offering satisfies the ancestors, and as sudhā satisfies the nāgas, so does the water of the Gaṅgā alone bring complete satisfaction to human beings. The Siddha thus extols Gaṅgā-water as a uniquely purifying and fulfilling support for human religious life, placing it alongside the proper sustenance of each order of beings.
सिद्ध उवाच
Each class of beings has its proper sustenance—amṛta for gods, svadhā for ancestors, sudhā for nāgas—and for humans the Gaṅgā’s water is praised as uniquely capable of granting full satisfaction, implying exceptional purificatory and dharmic value.
A Siddha is speaking and offers a comparative eulogy: by aligning Gaṅgā-water with the highest nourishing substances of other realms, he elevates its religious significance for human practice and merit.
